There are many benefits to using geothermal heating systems:
- Quiet– Geothermal heating systems do not use a condenser unit which means there is no motor running outside your home to operate the system. This means that there is no noise to disturb you or your neighbors.
- Cost effective– Geothermal systems cost about $3,500 more to install than a conventional system, which translates into about $30/ month in additional mortgage payments. However, the energy savings will be more than $30/month from the outset and the energy savings will more than exceed the additional initial cost.
- Durability– Geothermal systems have fewer moving parts and they are protected from the elements, so they are more durable and don’t often need repair. The piping for the system which is underground is often warranted for between 25 and 50 years and heat pumps usually last 20 years or more.
- Low maintenance– Geothermal systems have fewer maintenance needs than conventional systems. The underground parts of the system need almost no maintenance if installed properly and the parts of the system within the home have convenient access which makes upkeep easier to perform in a timely manner.
